We believe a home should be:

  • Where each person is an individual
  • Where there are no unnecessary rules and regulations
  • Where dignity, peace and comfort take priority
  • Where companionship, interest and activity flourishes.
  • And where people are supported to lead the fullest possible lives

Larks Leas Rest Home visit the Jurassic Coast

On the January 23rd, a small group of residents from Larks Leas Rest Home in Blandford took a trip to the seaside and down memory lane when they ventured out to Portland Bill near Weymouth for the day.  Portland Bill is at the heart of Dorset’s Jurassic Coast, which spans from Lyme Regis all the way to Swanage. The Jurassic Coast is a nearby World Heritage site, famed for it’s abundance of history and fossils from millions of years ago.  The Residents took the residential care home’s mini bus to go from their care home in the historical market town of Blandford Forum to Portland for the day.

The visit was prompted by one of the retirement home’s residents that had fond memories of visiting Portland Bill’s lighthouse as a young girl. Originally from Blandford, years ago her family spent many weekends fossil hunting and experiencing some of the best views in Dorset.
The group from Larks Leas then went on to have a fantastic lunch at The Lobster Pot and continued to enjoy the fresh sea air and far reaching views.  After lunch the day-trippers made the most of the warm weather and took a stroll along the seafront before heading home to North Dorset.
Larks Leas, a ‘Beacon’ status Gold Standards Framework care home in Dorset always consult both residents and their families to put together an activity plan that both encourages and inspires people to get involved.  We like to think that our Blandford rest home has that unique feeling of a ‘family home’ with pretty landscaped gardens, where our care staff are here to help residents lead the fullest possible lives at the Home.
